If you find that stress gets in the way of enjoying the holiday season, you’re not alone.
Some common stressors are finances, relationships, keeping up with healthy routines, and not having enough time to prepare for events. Get ahead of the chaos by following this four-step plan to make the most of your holidays.
- Write down the top three things that stress you out over the holidays.
- Make a plan. You may not be able to make the stress go away, but you can reduce its effect. For example, if spending too much money is one of your top stressors, decide how much you will spend and stick to that budget.
- Reduce stress in the moment. Stress happens no matter how well you plan. Common strategies include deep breathing, a quick walk, or mindfulness exercise. Decide what your strategies will be and practice them so they’ll feel natural when you need them.
- Stick to your healthy routines. Stay active, drink water, eat a base of healthy foods, get enough sleep, and stay connected to loved ones. If you follow these core activities, you will be in a better position to rise above daily stressors.
